When Jesus got off the boat, there was a large crowd waiting just
like there always was. One of the leaders of the synagogue (that's where the Jewish people
worshipped) came to him and begged him saying, "Master, my little daughter is very
sick and about to die. Come to my house and lay your hands on her so that she will get
well. She's only twelve years old."
"Of course, I will come," Jesus assured him.
As the crowd moved through the city streets, a woman with a disease of her blood moved along with them. "If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed," she said to herself. She moved through the busy crowd. Each step brought her a little closer to Jesus. Finally, she reached out and managed to touch his clothes, and immediately she was healed.
Jesus stopped and looked around. "Who touched me?" he asked those around him.
"Master," they replied, "there is a large crowd around you. People are pushing and shoving each other, and you ask 'who touched me?' Many people touched you."
"No, this was different," he answered them. "I felt the power go out of me. Who touched me?"
The woman fell at His feet and told Him, "Master, I have had a disease in my blood for 12 years. I've spent all my money on doctors and, instead of getting better, I've gotten worse. I told myself that if I could just touch your clothes, I would be healed, and that is just what happened. I WAS healed!"
Jesus said to her, "Daughter," -- he called her 'daughter!' -- "your faith has made you well. Go in peace."
"So it wasn't touching His clothes that healed me," she said to herself, "it was my faith." And she went away very happy.
As soon as she had left, the ruler's servants came to him. "Don't bother Jesus any longer. Your daughter is dead."
When Jesus heard this report, he said to the girl's father, "Don't be afraid. Only believe."
He took three of His disciples and went to the home of the ruler. When He saw all of the people crying He said, "Why are you crying. She isn't dead. She's just asleep." When He said that, do you know what the people did? They laughed right out loud, and made fun of Jesus.
Jesus took the girl's parents and His disciple, and went into the house where the dead girl was. He took hold of the little girl's hand and said, "Little girl, wake up!" Immediately, her eyes opened, and she started to walk around. They were all very surprised, but very happy.
Jesus is sooooo wonderful! He can heal a person even when He doesn't know they need healing, and He can bring a person back to life, just by saying "Wake up".
